3 DAYS TO GO UNTIL SCOTLAND’S BIGGEST STARS UNITE TO FUNDRAISE FOR NORDOFF ROBBINS MUSIC THERAPY AT SPECSAVERS SCOTTISH MUSIC AWARDS

There’s only 3 days to go until one of the biggest events of the year returns to Glasgow’s city centre in aid of Nordoff Robbins, and today the Specsavers Scottish Music Awards have announced the free event livestream will also include British Sign Language performance interpretations, ensuring it is more accessible to audience members with hearing impairments watching from home.

Bringing the glitz and glam of Scotland’s national music awards to the Barrowland Ballroom for the first time ever, Amy Macdonald, Brooke Combe, The Fratellis, Nina Nesbitt, Wet Wet Wetand MORE will perform for the live audience, as well as for fans who can enjoy a night of celebration from home this Saturday 13th November. Broadcaster Edith Bowman will host the event, which will honour some of Scotland’s biggest and best musicians, as well as spotlighting the incredible work Nordoff Robbins do across the country to provide music therapy.

Nordoff Robbins will feature two livestreams on their website from 9pm this weekend, with an option to choose a feed which will feature two BSL Performance Interpreters. Fans can tune into Saturday’s livestreams by signing up to watch for free at www.nordoff-robbins.org.uk/smas2021/.

2021’s Specsavers Scottish Music Awards will see performances at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom from; Amy Macdonald, The Bluebells, Bow Anderson, Brooke Combe, The Fratellis, Nathan Evans, Nina Nesbitt and Wet Wet Wet.

The awards have also announced new nominations for music industry mainstay Gordon Duncan, up for the Music Industry Award sponsored by Go Radio, while Scotland’s biggest and best music festival cinch presents TRNSMT Festival is nominated for the Best Event Award sponsored by Royal Highland Centre.

Returning once again to host the live awards ceremony, Edith Bowman said, “I’m really excited to be back hosting the Specsavers Scottish Music Awards as an actual real life event this year. It’s more important than ever for us to support the vital work Nordoff Robbins does across the country by providing music therapy to people who need it the most, and the event will raise much-needed funds for their work. The Scottish music scene is special for so many reasons, particularly its ability to come together and support each other in times of need, and that’s exactly what we’ve seen over the past year. One of the most iconic venues in the world, the Barrowland Ballroom will host the Nordoff Robbins flagship event, welcoming acts and guests from across the Scottish music industry and beyond. With the aim of raising funds for Nordoff Robbin’s music therapy, the event is vital in supporting the work the charity does across the country. In 2021, the charity delivered 3693 sessions and worked with 1197 individuals across Scotland.

This year’s ceremony will see titans of the Scottish industry perform, with Wet Wet Wetnominated for the Raymond Weil Icon Award and Amy Macdonald in the running for Specsavers Outstanding Achievement in Music Award. Long-time supporters of the charity, they will perform alongside the likes of Bow Anderson, Brooke Combe, The Fratellis, Nathan Evans and Nina Nesbitt, with special video performances from KT Tunstall and more.

For the past 22 years, the Specsavers Scottish Music Awards have honoured some of the country’s biggest international stars from Annie Lennox to Susan Boyle, Biffy Clyro to Snow Patrol, all whilst celebrating Scotland’s best up and coming talent including breakthrough awards for the likes of kitti, Tom Walker and Lewis Capaldi, with the all-important mission to raise funds for the UK’s largest independent music therapy charity.

Funds raised on the night via online donations, live auctions and ticket sales are a crucial part of the charity’s ability to provide music therapists and sessions to those who need it most. 2020’s winners and performers included Texas, Amy Macdonald, Wet Wet Wet, Dougie MacLean and many more, raising £89,000 to ensure the charity is able to provide vital services across Scotland.
