‘The biggest bargain of the summer’ NME
‘The UK’s model City Festival’ Clash
Evolution is proud to confirm that the two emerging regional acts chosen to open the North East’s biggest music festival will be Big Beat Bronson and Boys Jump Ship. The bands were chosen from over 500 applicants who applied though Generator, the UK’s leading music development agency.
Evolution festival promoter and Generator CEO Jim Mawdsley comments ‘We have always included a strong showing of North East talent on the Evolution programme and this year is no exception. From everyone who applied to play Evolution Emerging this year Big Beat Bronson and Boys Jump Ship stood out as two of the strongest acts and we are really pleased they will open the show on Sunday and Monday”.
Kicking off proceedings on Sunday will be Big Beat Bronson, a Beastie Boys-esque foursome bringing theatre to Hip Hop in a pioneering way, mashing sounds and crossing genres as they go. The buzz surrounding the band has blown up since they officially formed in 2012, with ‘sold out’ signs a regular fixture at each and every one of their gigs so far including the O2 Academy in Newcastle. The band have shared stages with the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Diplo,Shy FX, Dan le Sac and Rizzle Kicks and have been played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, Q Radio, and XFM.
Boys Jump Ship will open the mainstage on Monday. The band’s well crafted, anthemic, catchy alternative rock has seen them receive massively positive reviews across the board, more so from esteemed press such as Kerrang! and Rock Sound and pick up airplay form the likes of Radio 1’s Daniel P Carterand Huw Stephens and XFM’s Ian Camfield. The Newcastle band have performed alongside The Futureheads, Maximo Park, We Are The Ocean, Funeral Party and more and recently completed a successful headline tour across the UK in February. Boys Jump Ship look set to be one of the break out rock acts of 2013.
These local acts will join what is undoubtedly the best line up Evolution has ever put together. Acts include, queen of retro soul, Paloma Faith, arguably the countries best live band and sell out arena act, The Vaccines, the hottest solo artist in the country right now, Jake Bugg and pop superstar Ellie Goulding.
Also performing are breakthrough drum & bass dons and the act that have blown up with a number 1 single and album, Rudimental and fellow number 1 artist and the most exciting thing to happen to indie for a long time, Bastille.
Local Newcastle girl Lulu James is receiving huge critical acclaim across the board and has just made a draw dropping appearance on Later With Jools Holland. Catch her 21st century soul at Evolution before she goes stratospheric!
AlunaGeorge are the name on all the critics lists in 2013 whilst The Strypes take the honours for hottest band in the world having been tipped by the likes of Paul Weller and Jeff Beck for greatness.
Headlining the dance stage are two of the most gargantuan names in electronic music Sub Focus and Modestep both of whom will be performing live.
Other acts confirmed for Evolution include Nas protégé Arlissa, the haunting acoustic indie and folk of Sunderland’s The Lake Poets, Grime superstar LethalBizzle, Radio 1 and 1xtra supremo MistaJam and drum & bass / breakstep overlord Zinc.
Loadstar, Delta Heavy, Dismantle, Decibel, Drenge, Bondax, Gorgon City, P Money, Chroma, Gentlemen Jonny, Eliza & the Bear and Rossi Noise will also perform and the North East finest music festival.
Evolution is a snapshot of everything that is vital in contemporary music right now and continues to strive to bring the best artists to the North East to perform in front of the UK’s most rapturous festival audience. At £29.50 for a day ticket or £39.50 for the weekend, Evolution continues its tradition of providing an amazing show for an unbeatable price.
