Help Musicians UK is the leading independent charity for those working in the UK music industry. Today, the charity is delighted to reveal the launch of its permanent new Scottish operation – with Scottish heroes Idlewild playing an acoustic set at a special King Tut’s gig to mark the occasion.
The intimate ROOTED IN SCOTLAND gig in the iconic King Tut’s venue will take place on 1 February 2018 – the same day as the official opening of the Help Musicians Scotland (HMScotland) operation in Glasgow.
Set to perform a live set alongside Idlewild’s acoustic performance at the launch eventare Scottish musicians Be Charlotte, Indigo Velvet and SKJØR – all of whom have received support from the charity in the past.
HMScotland will uniquely benefit Scottish musicians, provide bespoke Scottish programming and campaigns, plus link to the charity’s near-100 years of health and welfare support for the music industry. Importantly, all of the funds raised in Scotland will stay in Scotland to help support the industry and its needs.
With the ROOTED IN SCOTLAND gig at the heart of the launch, HMScotland will also outline the charity’s plans for Scotland at the event as well as featuring an exclusive acoustic performance from one of Scotland’s most successful bands Idlewild – enjoying over twenty years of success since forming in 1995.
An extremely limited number of tickets for the special #RootedInScotland event at King Tut’s on Thursday 1 February 2018 go on-sale Wednesday 10 January via Ticketmaster. Stay tuned to the HMScotland website for updated information. Tickets are priced at £15 with ALL proceeds going to the charity.
The opening of the dedicated office, resources, programmes and team in Scotland follows HMUK’s successful launch of the first regional office in Northern Ireland in 2016. The charity has an ambition to have regional presence by 2021 in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Republic of Ireland and the North of England.
HMScotland aims to reach the entire country, with an intention to go beyond the central belt into the Highlands, Islands, and borders of Scotland through programmes of support, advice and campaigns. The charity will ensure presence across rural and urban areas whilst considering the needs of different geographical areas of Scotland and be able to respond to those needs with appropriate support.
HMScotland also aims to reflect all genres in Scotland, celebrate the musical heritage and history of Scottish music as well as creating sustainable programmes and funding for the future.

We’ve played some really special gigs at the venue, the first 21 years ago & a five night stint in 2008, so it’s truly an honour to return for such a great cause. Help Musicians Scotland do amazing work to support musicians at all stages in their career. We’re planning a special acoustic set for the evening and fans should expect a fitting set-list to mark a landmark moment for the Scottish music industry.”
