GROOVE CAIRNGORM
March 2016 will see a first for the UK with the launch of Groove CairnGorm – the first resort based Snowsports Festival to take place on British snow. The festival, which will take place over the weekend of the 11th-12th March 2016, will be hosted in conjunction with Cairngorm Mountain Ltd, in the town of Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands.
As well as regular snowsports, the event takes place over the same weekend as the Scottish Freestyle Championships, so expect to see some of the country’s top riders grabbing some big air during the day.
Following the snowsports and entertainment each day up on the mountain, there will be après-ski with live music and world class DJs until the early hours on Friday and Saturday in a big top in Aviemore.
Headliners for the après-ski Big Top are the legendary hip-hop DJ GRANDMASTER FLASH, and renowned musical tastemakers HOT CHIP (DJ SET).
Also appearing over the weekend are one act guaranteed to get any party started THE CUBAN BROTHERS, turntablist extraordinaire DJ YODA , Glasgow synth pop act PRIDES, BBC Radio 1/1Xtra‘s underground electronic tastemaker DJ MONKI, ETON MESSY who are regarded as one of the digital leaders in pushing the latest forward thinking electronic music, Skye’s NITEWORKS with their fusion of electronic and traditional sounds, winner of the Scottish Alternative Music Awards “best hip-hop group” SPRING BREAK, and MG Alba ‘Up and Coming Act of the Year’ 2014 winners THE ELEPHANT SESSIONS.
The line-up for artists on the mountain will be released over the next couple of months and will feature a mixture of DJ’s and acoustic acts performing on the slopes, at the park, and in the highest restaurant in the UK, The Ptarmigan.
The festival is being launched by the team behind Groove Loch Ness, and following the huge success of the inaugural event at Loch Ness this summer, Groove are very excited to be expanding, launching the UKs first resort based snowsports festival in 2016.
“We’re bringing snowsports back to their spiritual home! After the success of the inaugural Groove Loch Ness this summer, we just couldn’t wait a whole year for our next party, and we are very excited to be partnering with Cairngorm Mountain to be delivering this unique event in the UK’s festival calendar” said Sam Barker, one of the Groove founders.
“Cairngorm mountain has been given a facelift since it was taken over by Natural Retreats in 2014. The endless work they have been doing in the summer months has a huge impact on the conditions in winter, which stay better for longer. We want to celebrate that and give snow riders the opportunity to enjoy a snowsports festival weekend on home snow, that doesn’t break the bank.”
