The Wickerman Festival in association with Sunday Herald newspaper will be bringing one of Scotland’s hottest summer parties to Glasgow this June as it hosts its annual Wicker Warm Up gig.
Launched to let music lovers sample a taste of the Festival, the Wicker Warm-Up will take place on Thursday 26th June at Broadcast on Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street. Hosted by XFM DJ Jim Gellatly, the voice of new music in Scotland, the night will be headlined by highly sought after Scottish indie rockers, Neon Waltz.
Joining them will be three finalists from the Sunday Herald’s popular unsigned band competition – Parker, Old Bohemia and The Cut Throat Razors.
Back for a third year, the competition champions new Scottish talent offering the winning band the main stage opening slot at this year’s Wickerman Festival. The three finalists, who will be voted for by the public, will compete at the Wicker Warm-Up where the winning band will also be announced. Sunday Herald Editor, Richard Walker, will also take to the stage to keep the dance floor moving with a DJ set.
Following the unsigned band performances, gig goers will be treated to a special headline set from Neon Waltz, a powerful six-piece band hailing from the remote wilderness of Caithness. Their guitar-based melodic, sun-drenched soundscapes have brought the Highlanders critical acclaim with both Q magazine & NME singling out the band as being one of the top highlights of this years Great Escape in Brighton.
Wickerman is one of the UK’s best-loved independent music festivals and is now entering its 13th consecutive year. With eleven stages featuring an exciting and eclectic mix of leading artists, alternative acts and up-and-coming talent, the two day summer party caters for all musical tastes.
Festival Coordinator Helen Chalmers says:
“We are delighted to have Neon Waltz headlining this year’s Wicker Warm-Up, supported by three of Scotland’s best unsigned acts. It is a fantastic way to begin the four week countdown to the thirteenth Wickerman, and bring a flavour of the festival to Glasgow city centre. We hope that nearby Wicker fans join us for what is set to be a cracking evening”
