KNOWN for their talent at recognising what’s sure to be huge in music before its even made a dent- Bastille, Kodaline and Jake Bugg anyone?- Tenement TV have set-up intimate sessions and interviews with some of the biggest and intriguing names in music since they formed just under two years ago. Now turning their hand at festivals, the guys behind Scotland’s go-to website for music are setting up guitars in the sand this September for Live @ Troon.
For the fourth year running, Live @ Troon returns with stages, beach tents and stalls, calling in the bands to help celebrate its stamp on the Scottish music event calendar. Stretching across the diverse genres of indie, rock, punk and rap music of today; Tenement TV has bagged a line-up featuring a collection of buzz bands and outstanding talent.
It was in March this year that last saw Tenement TV take on the event calendar with their sold-out event Tenement Trail. Securing itself as the Camden Crawl of Glasgow, the event saw hundreds flock to the city’s best gig venues to catch the likes of Kassidy, Baby Strange, Discopolis and Davey Horne from noon until the early hours.
The event was a huge success, and as Kassidy closed the day in the early hours of the morning, the band caused Flat 0/1’s floor to tremble as fans squashed and squeezed themselves into the packed out venue. In a fitting setting that reflects the ethos of Tenement TV, fans at Tenement Trail got to see their favourite band up-close and personal in a front room with lampshades getting in the way of guitars and old sofas doubling up as step ladders for the excited crowd. Each separate gig at Tenement Trail collectively made Tenement TV a hot topic of conversation in the city.
As Glastonbury, T in the Park and Wickerman become a distant memory, Live @ Troon gives music fans a chance to grab onto the last few days of summer in an idyllic setting on the west coast’s beach.
Saturday sees Declan Walsh, Fake Major, Itchycoo Park and Selective Service open up the stage. The latter collecting a cult following with their regular live sets and great catchy tracks. A T Break melody proceeds as Honeyblood, Waiting For Go and Hector Bizerk take to the stage. Tenement TV recorded sessions with a great selection of bands at Wickerman festival last month, the Hector Bizerk one remaining a favourite. As the hip-hop act continues to collect a strong following around Scotland, it will be interesting to see what Louie and drummer Audrey can bring to their set as they stand amongst such different and diverse artists.
Bwani Junction will close the stage on Saturday evening, providing the Live @ Troon crowd with their impressive live show that artistically sounds exactly like their record. The Edinburgh four-piece do looping riffs and infectious harmonies to great effect and are sure to get the crowd fired up for the after party at Troon’s Town Hall which will feature Kassidy and AMWWF.
Sunday will kick off with Brave Young Red and Crash Club who are sure to get the party started nice and early in the Tenement TV tent. Dirty Diamond & The Gunslinger and buzz band of the moment Model Aeroplanes will follow, the latter making a wave in the indie music scene this summer with a packed T in the Park set amongst highlights.
Dundee’s blues-outfit The Boston Tea Party will return to Tenement TV after a successful set at Broadcast for Tenement Trail in March. The band perfect blues riffs with catchy beats- their rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s Please Stop Messing Around a stand-out from their Tenement Trail set.
Another of T Breaks breakthrough stars of this summer The Velveteen Saints, are taking to the stage on Sunday. The band are fresh from announcing they will support The View on their European Rocket to Russia tour this Autumn and are sure to bring some energy to their Live @ Troon set.
Nevada Base will warm up the stage for Edinburgh’s very own psychedelic buzz band, The Merrylees who will take to the stage on Sunday, closing the performances. Their western-pop-fuelled sets bagged them a space on the T Break stage this summer and are set to support The Coral’s James Skelly in December at his Glasgow show.
